      Star Crusade has a deceptive amount of strategic and tactical choice with the units that can be produced. While in traditional strategy games, units are recruited fully armed and armoured, with all of their abilities, Star Crusade's unit management is quite different.

    <description>
      Star Crusade can best be described as a strategy/shooter game. Taking the best parts of 2D retro shooters, and adding a layer of modern design, it aims to bring hands-on tactical gaming together with an overarching strategic experience.

Construct your fortresses, build your starfleets, train and equip your warriors, and lead them to glory or destruction!

Star Crusade is broken down into three distinct areas of gameplay:

===Colony Management===

You will be tasked with the management of your bases as you colonise or conquer new worlds. Base management consists of managing the resources each base has at its disposal, building new modules, and training new warriors. The management is streamlined and simple, to keep the focus on the broader battle plans.

===Fleet Movement===

The fleets you construct and load with soldiers are moved about the sector in this mode. This section of the game is real-time (although paused as you enter colony management or a battle) and shows the positions of all of your colonies and fleets. You can enter colony management by selecting the appropriate colony, or move your fleets RTS-style. Fleets that are given orders will carry them out, assaulting planets and delivering your troops to the battlefield, where you can take direct control.

===Conquest===

In the Conquest mode you will take control of the commander of your invasion forces, directly controlling them in a top-down shooter style. You will be tasked with the destruction of your enemies, and the domination of their planets. The soldiers that accompany you into battle are AI controlled, and can be issued broad commands such as &quot;Seek and Destroy&quot;, &quot;Defend&quot;, &quot;Rally&quot; or &quot;Secure Strategic Locations&quot;. Both the enemy and friendly AI intelligently conduct themselves ni battle, while posing a challenge to their foes.
